In a significant move on the global diplomatic stage, France has publicly supported India’s bid to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) with veto power. Beyond India, Paris has thrown its weight behind other G4 nations: Japan, Germany, and Brazil signalling strong confidence in their leadership roles on the world stage.
But that’s not all: France is also calling for two permanent UNSC seats for Africa, pushing for greater continental representation in the most powerful UN body. This proposal aligns with growing demands to reform the Security Council to better reflect current geopolitical realities and power balances.
If realised, this could reshape global governance, giving countries like India a firmer say in issues of peace, security, and international diplomacy.
