Elevated diplomacy in motion: In a significant step, Vladimir Putin held a “thorough exchange of views” with Benjamin Netanyahu focusing on the Gaza situation, Iran’s nuclear programme, and Syria’s stability.
At the same time, Russia introduced a counter-proposal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) against the US-led draft resolution on Gaza.
The US draft would endorse a transitional “Board of Peace” and a multinational stabilisation force while Moscow’s version emphasises the two-state solution and calls for a UN Secretary-General’s report instead.
With tensions mounting ahead of the vote, the global spotlight is on how this tug-of-war at the UN will shape peace efforts in Gaza.
